ALABAMA -- A girl said she was sent home on the first day of school because of her hair color.
According to WAFF, school officials told Hayleigh Black, 16, that her red hair was "too distracting."
The teen said she's dyed her hair the same color for several years and no one has said anything until now.
The superintendent of Muscle Shoals City Schools told WAFF, "The dress code section of the Muscle Shoals High School Student Handbook states, 'Students will not be allowed to attend classes if their attire includes the following:' Item #6 specifies, 'Hair which has been dyed a bright or distractive color. Dyed hair will be permitted only if the hair is dyed a natural human color.'"
Hayleigh will change her hair color.
