NEWBURGH HEIGHTS, Ohio– Police and fire officials are investigating after three houses caught on fire in Newburgh Heights Monday afternoon.

Crews were called to Pearse Avenue at about 3:45 p.m., where two houses were engulfed in flames. The blaze spread to another home on McGregor Avenue.

“It does not appear to be arson at this time, however, there does appear to be some act of negligence at this point. We will be launching an investigation,” Police Chief John Majoy said.

One woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. She was treated and released.

Crews from Cleveland, Cuyahoga Heights, Brooklyn Heights, Valley View, Independence, Seven Hills, Broadview Heights, Garfield Heights, Maple Heights and Brecksville were called to help.
