CLEVELAND - What were you doing on Election Day in 1944? FOX 8 tracked down one woman who was at the ballot box.

"I voted for Franklin Delano Roosevelt on his fourth term," said Peggy Kennell at the Judson Manor retirement community.

Kennell, 92 says she's voted in every presidential election since but none have been as divisive as the 2016 race for the White House.

"People are really stirred up about what's going on," said Kennell.

There's no doubting the election has been contentious. It has both Kennell and her friend Sarah Wiehe, 73 hoping for a quick end to this election season.

"Absolutely unprecedented it's so divisive, it's nasty, disgusting, it's disrespectful, it's inhumane," said Wiehe. "I just find it shocking."

"There wasn't this feeling of hate," said Kennell. "There was more understanding of each side and the issues. Now we have such a division on these things."

Kennell says pushing political viewpoints aside, the idea a woman could serve as president is something she never thought possible.

"It would be amazing to see the glass ceiling broken," said Kennell.

Wiehe cast her first presidential ballot for Lyndon B. Johnson.  She says the last time the country was this rattled by a presidential election John F. Kennedy was running for office.

"He was a catholic," said Wiehe. "Nobody thought a catholic could be elected."

Regardless of who wins, Kennell says the losing candidate must concede so the country can start to heal.

"We have to accept our leader and move on," said Kennell.

"It ain't over till it's over," said Wiehe. "We have a long way to go. I don't know if whoever is chosen, if it will be the end of it."
