MASSILLON, Ohio – A 17-year-old girl who was killed after being struck by a truck Friday afternoon was a senior at Massillon Digital Academy, according to the school’s director.
“Jamie was a kind and pleasant girl. She was shy but got along well with her teachers and friends,” said Nicki Howard, Director of Massillon Digital Academy. “She will be greatly missed by all of us! This was such a tragedy! Our sincere condolences to Jamie’s family!”
According to police, DeLeon was trying to cross Lillian Gish Blvd., in a marked crosswalk, just before 4 p.m. That’s when police said a 50-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Silverado turned right onto W. Lincoln Way from Lillian Gish Blvd. and hit her with his truck.
DeLeon was taken to Affinity Medical Center where she passed away.
According to Howard, Jamie was on track to graduate this year.
The crash remains under investigation.
