Suspect in Solon crash, murder case pleads not guilty in court

BEDFORD, Ohio- New details about the man accused of murdering another driver after a car crash early Saturday morning.

29-year-old Matthew Desha is being held on one million dollars bond for the death of Debbie Pearl.

According to a police report, Desha was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Solon and Richmond Roads, when he suddenly swerved around them and sped through the light, slamming into Pearl's car.

That's when witnesses say, Desha got out of his vehicle with an AR-15 rifle, walked up to Pearl's vehicle and started shooting. She crawled out of the passenger side and he continued to shoot.  People around the area that morning told police, as cars passed them, he fired off another half dozen shots at other vehicles.

The police report states, one passerby told Desha to drop his weapon and he did. Another witness held him on the ground with one foot on Desha, the other foot on the rifle.

More than two dozen family members came to Bedford Municipal Court Wednesday morning, where Matt Desha waived his his preliminary hearing and plead not guilty to murder.

53-year-old Debbie Pearl has three sons and was a grandmother.
