RUTLAND, Mass.- Two Massachusetts officers came within inches of being hit by an SUV and police say the driver was texting.
Surveillance video from the police station shows two Rutland officers crossing the street when a Ford Explorer goes speeding by. Det. Chris Giglio and Patrolman Travis McCauley were walking in the middle of a crosswalk, and ran to get out of the way.
Police said the 40-year-old driver sped up, but the two cops got back to their car and pulled her over.
“I looked at her cell phone. I noticed there were two text messages around the same time I asked her to stop at the scene and I asked her why she said she didn’t see us,” Giglio told WBZ in Boston.
The detective said just two weeks ago, his wife was hit by a texting driver.
The driver was cited with failure to yield right of way to pedestrians in a crosswalk.
