Summit Co. Residents Assessing Damage After Flooding

AKRON, Ohio – People across Summit County were assessing damage to their homes and several roads Tuesday morning after several inches of rain fell across the county.

Flooding caused several roads to close and power outages Monday night. In addition to the roadway flooding, 40 people reported having flooded basements.

The hardest hit areas include Bath Township and Cuyahoga Falls. The cities received around 3-4 inches of rain in a short amount of time.

In Bath Township, a bridge on Shaw Road near Granger Road collapsed completely into Yellow Creek. Shaw Road has been closed indefinitely.

Several other roads collapsed including the 1500 block of N. Hametown Road. The 2500 block of Ira Road near Hale Farm also collapsed into rushing waters. Police have closed Ira Road between Kemery Road and Oak Hill Road.

The Summit County Emergency Management Agency activated the Emergency Operation Center Monday night.

Officials are working with the Summit County’s Engineer’s Office on assessing the damage.
