Student shot near Case Western Reserve University, suspects in custody

CLEVELAND -- Police are investigating a shooting near Case Western Reserve University's campus.

According to an alert from CWRU, an undergraduate student was shot on Murray Hill Road, near Residential Village.

The university said that student is in stable condition and the student's parents have been notified.

Chief James Repicky of University Circle Police Department told FOX 8 the incident began in the Murray Hill area around 8:05 p.m. when a man was robbed and shot in the torso.

Repicky said the victim was transported to University Hospitals and is under observation.

UCPD observed the two suspects on E. 119th Street.

Police reportedly pursued the suspects and apprehended them. Repicky said by 8:15 p.m. the suspects had been arrested.

One suspect was hurt when taken into custody and transported to the hospital and is under observation.  Police said they believe the other suspect is being held in jail.

The Cleveland Police Department is also on scene assisting.

CWRU says they have added more officers to patrol the campus in light of the shooting.
