WESTLAKE, Ohio -- Crews worked into the early morning to reinforce the structure of a bar after a pick-up truck slammed into it during a high speed chase.
A dozen people were hurt, with injuries ranging from bumps and bruises to more serious.
It ended on Detroit near Dover Center when the stolen pickup plowed into Dover Gardens Tavern bar when there were people inside.
The stolen truck was being chased by officers in Avon Lake and then crossed into Avon just before 9 p.m. Thursday night.
By the time the truck reached Westlake it was traveling 75 mph in a 35 zone.
When Westlake police laid out stop sticks, the driver lost control and crashed into Dover Gardens Tavern.
Westlake police said Friday no Westlake officers were involved in the pursuit and that their policy does not address the use of stop sticks.
Officials said the truck hit with such force it got stuck inside the building and they were afraid it might collapse.
At least 12 people were hurt including the driver. Three people were pinned behind the bar.
The suspect was arrested by Avon Lake police.
He was recovering at the hospital Friday.
Officers say he was driving on a suspended license and has active warrants for his arrest.
