STARK CO., Ohio — Stark County residents are mourning the loss of a man they elected to lead their sheriff’s office.
Sheriff-elect Michael McDonald, 54, died Friday night after a lengthy battle with esophageal cancer.
McDonald spent more than 30 years serving Stark County in law enforcement before being elected sheriff in November.
He planned to take office on Jan. 7, but his cancer returned in December, and he was unable to fulfill the duties he was elected to perform.
McDonald leaves behind his wife, Judy, and two children.
