CLEVELAND, Ohio – St. Augustine’s is celebrating Easter by feeding those in need.
"I mean this place is fantastic. Everybody's happy, more than anything I've ever seen in my life. They're nice people,” said Allen Miller.
He’s one of many to show up for the big feast. He said he appreciates the generosity.
"They've been so helpful to all of us,” he said.
Getting ready for the event was no easy task. Cook Robert Evans said they’ve been preparing for more than a month.
"They've been working quite some time on this, but the food is fresh and we had to slice a lot of hams,” he said.
He doesn’t mind spending the extra time in the kitchen though. He said he loves volunteering.
"I get a lot of enjoyment out of it. It feels good.,” he said.
Of course none of this would be possible without Sister Corita Ambro. She makes sure everyone gets fed.
"It's expensive, but it's worth every single penny of it and the people of Cleveland are so good to us and so good to me to get this money to do it,” said Sister Corita.
She said these holidays are about more than just a meal. It also gives people a chance to socialize.
“To me, they’re family. One gentleman said to me 'I'm all alone. I have no family at all.' I said 'but we're you're family' and he said 'yes you are' and that's the beauty of it,” she said.
