SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio (WJW) – Police have released preliminary information regarding the tragic death of a 10-year-old child, including his name.
According to South Euclid police, they received a call about a deceased child at a Bexley Boulevard home around 5:30 Friday evening. Police arrived at the home and found Eion Boyette dead from a gunshot wound. Now police say they believe the child accidently shot himself after playing with a firearm that went off.
Boyette reportedly attended South Euclid’s Greenview Middle School, and the district said they would have counselors available to all students.
Agents with the State Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted officers with the investigation to determine “the circumstances which led to the juvenile’s death.”
“Our deepest condolences go out to the Boyette family and we ask that they be given privacy during this difficult time,” police said in statement.
An investigation is ongoing.
