LAKEWOOD, Ohio– A man will spend at least 15 years in prison for the stabbing death of his mother this summer.

Kathleen Meany called police from her home on Lakeland Avenue in Lakewood on July 17. When officers arrived, they found the 56-year-old bleeding on the kitchen floor.

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office said her son, Sean White, was still in the house and covered in blood.

Meany was taken to Fairview Hospital, where she died about an hour later.

White’s trial was set to begin on Tuesday, but he pleaded guilty to murder and felonious assault. Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Janet Burnside sentenced him to 15 years to life in prison.

“This was the case of a loving mother who came to a tragic end,” said assistant prosecuting attorney Blaise Thomas, in a news release on Tuesday.

White, who was 21 at the time of the murder, will be eligible for parole in 2030.
