SOLON, Ohio — Police in Solon arrested a Cleveland man over the weekend who was allegedly smoking marijuana inside a parked SUV with an infant sitting next to him.

An incident report provided to Fox 8 News by Solon Police details the arrest of Martell Cooper, 23, of Cleveland.

According to Lt. Bruce Felton with the Solon Police Department, Cooper has been charged with drug abuse related to the June 23, 2012 incident in a Kruse Drive parking lot.

The report states that police dispatch had received numerous calls from residents about a man smoking marijuana in a car.

When police arrived at the scene they found Cooper in the back seat of a Dodge Durango with an infant in a car seat next to him. Officers smelled marijuana and found burned marijuana residue on the floor of the car.

Upon further questioning Cooper turned over an additional marijuana cigarette to police that he had in a pocket of his pants.

Cooper told authorities that he was in the parking lot with the infant because family members were inside a portrait studio in the mini-mall having their pictures taken.

The infant was turned over to family members who had been inside the portrait studio.

A search of Cooper’s record by police showed that he was also wanted on an active warrant in Maple Heights.
