‘Smart home’ devices are becoming more common, but experts warn that these new security devices may not be secure at all.
More and more manufactures are developing home security products that can be controlled by smartphones. It’s possible to remotely turn lights on and off, control thermostats, and activate alarm systems.
There’s even an oven than can be controlled with an app.
But experts warn that manufactures and consumers are not taking security into account, according to CNN. Connecting any device to a network opens the door for hackers to attack.
Smart door locks are designed to be opened with a PIN code or app. A hacker can open a front-door lock from a computer, leaving no trail.
According to CNN, many manufactures were responsive to the security issues and are working to address the flaws.
