PEPPER PIKE, Ohio-- When most of us decorate for Halloween we carve a pumpkin or two, maybe get a couple cornstalks,  perhaps a couple mummies.  That just wasn’t enough for one man who lives in Pepper Pike.

His simple idea to decorate for Halloween has now become almost an obsession, and something that all his neighbors look forward to every year.

“I decided to build a Frankenstein out front because I had the room.  It was kind of like an engineering challenge.  I found stuff on the Internet and built it and put it up.  It was kind of funny because it was such a big hit with the kids.  It was just ridiculous; it built on itself.  I put the werewolf up and it was a decision as to what I was going to do next," said Todd Preston.

Todd’s creations are not easy to build.  Each one takes many  hours.  The secret to success, according to him, is two things.

“If you can figure out the hands and the mask, you can build the body around it.  So you get the mask, then you buy foam blocks at the craft store.  Foam is nice because you can cut it to any shape you want.  You can glue it together; you can make it fatter or wider; you can out a nose on it.  Once the foam is the shape you want it to be then you can just slide your mask over the foam. Then you have your head," added Todd.

For hands, Todd likes to buy the pose-able hands that artists use when they are learning to draw.  From there Todd builds the torso out of wood and chicken wire. Even some PVC is used.  Each one is a little different.

“My kids love coming here.  They love walking up and being up-close to the different things that Todd has created.  We have so much fun.  Every year we can't wait until it comes out. That lets us know Halloween is coming.  He's so much fun to have in the neighborhood," said Todd’s neighbor, Tracy Russo.

“ I don't want to make it too scary.  I just want to have it be fun.  That's what the kids like.  It's just kind of fun and festive for Halloween," added Preston.

If you'd like to see the display, Todd’s address in Pepper Pike is 3047 Edgewood Road.
