Deputy Accused of Drunken Driving

SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A local sheriff’s deputy has found himself on the wrong side of the law.

Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Deputy Julius Petro, 62, was arrested for OVI at 2:26 a.m. Sunday, a spokesperson for the Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed.

Petro was off-duty when he was stopped for allegedly going left of center on State Route 531 in Saybrook Township. He took a breathalyzer test and blew a .097. The legal limit is .08.

According to court officials, Petro pleaded not guilty to the drunken driving charge Monday morning in Ashtabula Municipal Court. He was released after posting $1,750 bond.

Petro is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal case.
