Sheriff Says Couple Cooked Meth Near Ravenna High School

A Ravenna Township couple has been arrested for allegedly manufacturing methamphetamine within the vicinity of Ravenna High School.

According to Portage County Sheriff David Doak, Michael W. Dowdy, 34, and Rachael L. Dowdy, 25, of 6585 Garfield Street, were booked on charges of illegal possession of chemicals to manufacture drugs.

The couple was arrested on Friday, March 2nd after Portage County Sheriff’s Detectives went to the couple’s home to follow-up on a previously reported burglary at the residence.

While at the home detectives and members of the Portage County Drug Task Force smelled a strong odor of chemicals, and located several chemicals commonly used to make methamphetamine.

The couple lives one block away from Ravenna High School.

According to Doak, both suspects were booked in the Portage County Jail.
