SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Shaker Heights High School prom has been relocated from downtown Cleveland in light of Saturday morning’s ruling in the Officer Michael Brelo trial.
Judge John O’Donnell found Brelo not guilty on all counts in the 2012 deadly chase and shooting.
School officials posted a notice on the district’s web site announcing the change.
It said in part:
“That decision, unfortunately, holds the possibility of unrest in the community, particularly in downtown Cleveland.
To protect our students from potential risk in downtown Cleveland, we are moving tonight’s Shaker Heights High School prom from the Cleveland Convention Center to the Shaker Heights Country Club, located at 3300 Courtland Boulevard.”
The time of the event will remain the same. All students and guests with tickets will be able to attend the prom at Shaker Heights Country Club. After-prom will take place at the Cleveland Skating Club.
Kenston Local Schools relocated their graduation ceremony from Cleveland Public Hall to the school campus Thursday due to uncertainty of response to the outcome to the trial.
