AKRON– A short ride home turned into a white-knuckled drive for several local women after their vehicles were struck by something that shattered their windows.

Both incidents happened a few blocks away from Copley Rd. on South Hawkins Ave.

Victims said their vehicles were hit while they were driving along the stretch of road between Bye Street and Delia Ave.

“I just know I’m a nervous wreck,” said Toni Spears-Alford. “And I’ll be glad when they find the person doing it.”

Toni’s an Akron mom who was driving her mini-van Saturday night around 11:47 p.m. for her job.

She said she was making her last pizza delivery stop before heading home when she heard something that sounded like two gunshots, and one of her windows was shattered.

She called 911 and drove to a gas station, where she said Akron police responded quickly and surveyed the damage.

“They think it was some kind of pellet gun they said because if it was a bullet it would’ve probably been lodged inside the car,” said Toni.

Then about 45 minutes later, another car was hit by something along that same road with two young females inside, one of whom was the 18-year-old driver.

The Honda Civic’s window was entirely blown out.

There are no reports of any serious injuries.

However, that does little to ease Toni’s frazzled nerves. She said she and her family keep thinking about Sharon Budd, the 52 year-old local teacher, who was critically injured after being hit by a rock thrown from an overpass that went inside the car she was in, while in Pennsylvania this summer.

Toni said she shudders every time she thinks of the pellets possibly hitting her in the head or the seats where her children normally sit.

“I’m just freaked out about it. I just hope they find out who’s doing it,” said Toni.
