PARMA, Ohio – A rash of aggravated robberies across Cuyahoga County had investigators from various local, state and federal agencies teaming up and working together to catch the suspects.

Thursday, Cuyahoga Prosecutor Timothy McGinty announced that their efforts have led to multiple arrests of dangerous criminals.

McGinty said, 28-year-old Dawud Wilson is on probation for other crimes, and now a suspect in about 11 armed robberies that occurred in the city of Cleveland and in several Cuyahoga County suburbs including Fairview Park.

Investigators say, he was dubbed the “Bearded Robber,” because of the disguise he wore while allegedly robbing various businesses.

“He robbed a gas station right around the corner from my home in Cleveland,” said McGinty.

Investigators say Wilson’s offenses started in October 2104 and continued up until a few days ago when he was arrested in Lake County by sheriff’s deputies and officers with both the Mentor and Willoughby police departments.

“They communicated very well together,” said McGinty, “They exchanged information, they exchanged robbery photos.”

A collaborative effort is also credited with the capture of 6 other robbery suspects accused of committing at least 18 aggravated robberies in multiple communities across the county.

Parma Police Chief Robert Miller says, the end of their run came after they held up this gas station Sunday.

The suspects have been arrested, but their names are not being released until they are charged.

During the press conference Prosecutor McGinty also mentioned several other armed robbers recently convicted.  He said, the majority of violent criminals committing the bulk of the recent aggravated robberies are now locked up.

“The crime rate will drop because it’s a very small percentage of the criminals committing a very large percent of the crime,” said McGinty.
