Seven arrested in Westlake in connection with credit card, identity theft

WESTLAKE, Ohio – Seven people were arrested on September 30 on felony charges of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.

They were taken into custody near the Sperry Drive motel they had been staying at in Westlake, Ohio after an officer noticed drug paraphernalia left in and around one of their rental cars. The officer stopped the car after they committed a traffic offense.

Inside the car police found stolen IDs, checkbooks, and credit cards taken in thefts from Richfield, Bedford Heights and Medina County. There were also IDs, checkbooks and credit cards from people in Kentucky, Pennsylvania and South Dakota in the other three rental vehicles.

All suspects were taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail on Tuesday. In addition to the charge of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, all seven suspects face additional charges of participating in a criminal gang, possession of criminal tools, receiving stolen property, identity fraud, forgery and uttering.
