CLEVELAND- A serial rapist already serving time in prison has been sentenced for attacking two Cleveland teenagers 20 years ago.

Ronald Wheeler, 42, pleaded guilty to two counts of rape earlier this month. On Friday, he was sentenced to 22 years in prison, which is the maximum.

“Ronald Wheeler brutally terrorized and raped two young women who had to wait 20 years for justice,” said assistant prosecutor Mary Weston.

In August 1994, Wheeler told an 18-year-old woman he had a gun and forced her behind a West Park pizza place. The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office said that’s when he raped her and stole her purse.

Months later, Wheeler attacked a Magnificat High School student while she was waiting for a bus. He threatened to shoot the 14-year-old victim, then slammed her head against a wall and raped her.

Authorities were identified Wheeler as their attacker by testing the rape kits with DNA already in the state’s database.

Wheeler has been in prison since 2009 for raping two others, including a 16-year-old that he sexually assaulted at knifepoint.
