CLEVELAND-- A security guard was dragged by shoplifting suspects at a grocery store on Cleveland's east side Thursday morning.

It happened at about 10 a.m. at the Dave's Supermarket at East 40th Street and Quincy Avenue.

Cleveland police said the Grand River police officer was working security at the store and was helping a woman who was locked out of her car. The manager chased a man and a woman who stole meat into the parking lot.

The suspects were driving away in a van when the security guard tried to stop them. He was dragged by the van and fired four shots. Cleveland police said no one was hit.

The suspects are driving a Kia Sedona.

The officer was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center. Officials said he is doing well.

Grand River police said he is a part-time officer, who has been with the department for more than 12 years.
