PHILADELPHIA– Comedian and outspoken Bernie Sanders supporter Sarah Silverman tried to unite the Democratic Party during the first night of the Democratic National Convention on Monday.

“Bernie showed us all of America’s citizens deserve quality health care and education, not just the wealthy elite,” Silverman said. “Sounds so obvious. Who wouldn’t agree with that?”

While praising the Senator from Vermont, she urged those in the audience to get behind former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“I will vote for Hillary with gusto, as I continue to be inspired and moved to action by the ideals set forth by Bernie, who will never stop fighting for us. I am proud to be a part of Bernie’s movement and a vital part of that movement is making absolutely sure Hillary Clinton is our next president,” Silverman said.

But her pro-Clinton comments were met with mixed reaction, amid news of controversial emails about Sanders within the Democratic National Committee . That’s when Silverman, who was told to stall with Sen. Al Franken before Paul Simmons’ performance, delivered a message.

“Can I just say, to the ‘Bernie or bust’ people, you’re being ridiculous,” Silverman said.
