(CNN) — Rick Santorum, who returns to the campaign trail Friday evening for the first time since Wednesday’s CNN Arizona GOP Presidential Debate, escalated his rhetoric against Mitt Romney in an interview to air on CNN’s The Situation Room.

Asked which team Romney is playing for, Santorum said, “Well, I would say that’s the left. I would say that’s the problem with Gov. Romney in this election.”

At the CNN debate, Santorum said “politics is a team sport,” a line which Romney criticized on the campaign trail Thursday in Arizona and Friday in Michigan.

“Senator Santorum, and I think that last debate we had the other night was kind of revealing,” Romney said in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. “He said that well now and then you have to take one for the team. He was explaining why it was he voted for things he didn’t believe in.”

Santorum offered a list of what he sees as Romney’s fouls “on a variety of different issues,” including the abortion, the economy, environment, and judicial appointments.

He told CNN Chief Political Analyst Gloria Borger that the attacks are false.

“Governor Romney has gone full bore attacking Rick Santorum and he’s doing so falsely,” Santorum said. “What you can trust is that he’s not going to tell you the truth about his record and he’s going to try to distort somebody else’s record for him to suggest that he is more conservative than me and more reliable is absolutely ludicrous.”
