SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — The female passenger involved in an altercation with an RTA driver was sentenced for disorderly conduct Tuesday.
Shidea Lane took an uppercut to the face on Sept. 18 during the argument with Artis Hughes.
The incident was captured on video.
A judge sentenced Lane to 30 days in jail but 27 days were suspended.
She’ll also have to pay a $250 fine.
Lane told Fox 8 News she was getting on the bus to go to work when the incident unfolded.
“The bus driver didn’t think I had any money to get on the bus and I was looking for it, trying to tell him that I have money to get on the bus. Can you just let me find it? And from there it just escalated,” said Lane.
According to a written statement in an RTA police report, Hughes told investigators, “She said she would spit on me, that’s when I told her I would hurt her, she continued to threaten me and as I was driving, she grabbed me in the throat and spit on me in the face. I stopped the bus and I protected myself and got off the bus.”
Hughes was convicted of assault and must spend three days in jail and pay a $1,000 fine.
