Residents raising funds to preserve rare deer found dead

AVON LAKE, OH -- He was the unofficial city mascot of Avon lake.

A rare white deer named Whitey, a piebald deer, was found in the woods near Moore Road. Police believed the animal died of natural causes.

Now, Avon Lake residents and a local pet rescue group have stepped forward to preserve the deer and are raising funds to help pay the $2,000 bill.
