READING, Pa. — The city Christmas tree in Reading, Pa., elicited so many complaints from residents that it’s being taken down.
According to WFMZ, several people have called the 50-foot Norwood spruce “pathetic” and ugly.”
A community group has raised about $1,000 to pay for a possible replacement. They’re looking for a total of $5,000 to pay for the decorations and other expenses.
Another tree-lighting ceremony will be held once the new tree is in place.
The Associated Press reports that the puny pine was a last-minute stand-in taken from a city park. The city had planned to get the tree from a farm, but the owner wouldn’t let the crews drive on the wet ground when they went to pick it up.
