Could the next secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs come from Cleveland?

According to The Wall Street Journal, Dr. Delos “Toby” Cosgrove, CEO and President of the Cleveland Clinic is one of the candidates being considered for the position.

A spokesperson with the Cleveland Clinic says they “cannot confirm” if Dr. Cosgrove has been approached about the appointment at this time.

However sources tell FOX 8 that the Clinic is not denying it either.

Dr. Cosgrove is a skilled cardiac surgeon, U.S. Air Force Vietnam veteran, with dozens of patents filed, who has  presided over the “$6.2 billion Cleveland Clinic healthcare system” for the past decade, according to his biography on the Cleveland Clinic website.

If selected, Dr. Cosgrove would be filling the position left vacant when former VA Secretary Eric Shinseki resigned last week after a firestorm of criticism and allegations that thousands of veterans didn’t receive proper care.
