CLEVELAND — The sound of a small tinging bell signals the holiday season each year as volunteers collect donations for The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign.

Quicken Loans helped to kick off the annual event by giving a $10,000 gift on Wednesday.

An event was held at Windows in the River to celebrate this year’s upcoming campaign.

“We are extremely grateful for the generosity of Quicken Loans and we thank them for stepping up to help meet the increased needs of struggling families in our community,” said Major Lurlene-Kay Johnson, the Divisional Secretary for The Salvation Army of Greater Cleveland.

Proceeds from The Red Kettle Campaign provide food, clothing, toys and other assistance throughout the year.

Quicken Loans’ gift is a great start, but The Salvation Army is hoping others will give as well, with a goal of $693,000 in mind.

The Red Kettle Campaign officially begins on Black Friday and runs through Christmas Eve (Nov. 29-Dec. 24).

Look for the iconic collection buckets at participating Walmarts, Sam’s Clubs, Dave’s Supermarkets, Giant Eagles and other retail locations.
