GUADALUPE ISLAND, Mexico — It’s a magnificent sight, but one you probably wouldn’t want to come across in real life.

Mexican shark researcher Mauricio Hoyos Padilla recently posted new video of “Deep Blue” to his Facebook page.

According to The Daily Mail, the female shark is believed to be the largest great white ever caught on camera.

Padilla shot the video off the coast of Mexico’s Guadalupe Island back in 2013, but just discovered the video on his computer.

Deep Blue is believed to be about 50 years old, at least 20 feet long, and weigh about 5,000 pounds.

Padilla posted the video to raise awareness about the dangers pregnant great white sharks face. They generally head to shallow areas to give birth due to the abundance of food and lack of natural predators. However, fishing nets and hooks pose a real danger to the sharks.

According to his Facebook page, Padilla is director-general at Pelagios-Kakunja. It’s an environmental conservation organization that works to protect the pregnant sharks.

Padilla posted information about the organization:

“Pelagios-Kakunja is a non-profit organization that seeks to understand movements and migratory patterns of marine top predators. We aim to generate baseline information for the regional management and implementation of conservation strategies for sharks and other top marine predators in the Mexican Pacific. Our main goal in Guadalupe Island is to tag the pregnant White Shark females and determine the nursery grounds that are being used near shore in order to give the Mexican Government the tools to protect them.”
