KENT, Ohio– It’s no secret that FOX 8 meteorologist Dick Goddard has left his mark on Northeast Ohio. But his influence extends beyond Cleveland.

The television legend, who is retiring on Tuesday, made a name for himself early as a student at Kent State University.

Goddard served as the grand marshal in the 1984 homecoming parade, where he was given the distinguished alumnus award. In a Daily Kent Stater about the honor, he joked, “I got so many parking tickets… I think they should name a building ‘Goddard Hall.'”

“I was involved in a lot of things at school, everything from musicals to freshman football. I soon realized though, that being the third-string left halfback wasn’t going to get me a job with the Cleveland Browns,” the 1960 graduate said.

Goddard acted in several plays, including “Oklahoma” and “Annie Get Your Gun.”
