CLEVELAND (WJW) — The Cleveland Browns announced Monday they have signed veteran Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco to the practice squad, following the brutal news that the team’s No. 1 Deshaun Watson would be out the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury.

This all comes as little surprise, as Flacco was in Northeast Ohio Friday working out with the team.

The 6-foot-6, 245-pound Flacco is now in his 16th NFL season. He has appeared in 183 games, starting in all but three and compiling a 99-81 record as a starter (55%).

He was a first-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens in 2008 and led them to a Super Bowl trophy in 2013 when he was also named MVP. He played there until 2018, then went to the Denver Broncos in 2019. He was with the New York Jets from 2020 to 2022. Most recently, he started four games with the Jets last year.

Flacco has completed 3,881 of 6,299 career passes (61.6%) with 232 touchdowns and 147 interceptions.

To make room for Flacco on the roster, wide receiver Trinity Benson was released from the practice squad.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the move on social media Sunday night.

Schefter said the Super Bowl champion (with the Ravens in 2013) is expected to be moved to the active roster shortly.

The Cleveland Browns are now 7-3 on the season despite major injuries and setbacks. Sunday’s afternoon game saw them beating the Pittsburgh Steelers at home with the help of rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. The other Browns quarterback is P.J. Walker.
