CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The FOX 8 I TEAM has learned, the Cleveland city prosecutor has now filed charges in a case involving a protester apparently spitting on a Cleveland police officer.

The case sparked outrage for what happened at the scene and for what happened next. Two protesters were arrested during the incident, but then they were released with no charges.

It began a week ago during a march downtown against President Trump. Two protesters appeared to be interfering with a bike patrol officer. When the officer reached out to grab a protester, it appeared the man spit on the officer. Moments later, a woman scuffled with police.

City Hall told the I TEAM, it needed to gather and review evidence. That included requesting the video shot exclusively by the I TEAM.

Now James Hagin is charged with harassment by an Inmate. That might sound strange, although the charge is a felony, and it includes a section outlawing using any bodily fluid against an officer.

Molly Loder has been hit with 3 misdemeanor charges including resisting arrest for battling police and interfering.

Hagin didn’t return a message we left for him earlier. And no one answered when we went by Loder’s home this week. They go to court next month.

The Cleveland Police union has called for stiff punishment for this. And the case still could go to a grand jury for more charges.
