Chad Padgett faces a charge of aggravated murder in the death of off-duty firefighter Lt. William Walker, who was ambushed outside his east side home in November 2013.

Prosecutors said in court Friday that the crime was a "hit," and that Padgett received text messages to kill the firefighter.

Prosecutors also say the Padgett was the boyfriend or ex-boyfriend of Walker's step-daughter.

Padgett pleaded not guilty to the charge, and a court-appointed lawyer was assigned to him.
