Proposed Bill Would Start Classes After Labor Day

A proposed bill in the Ohio Statehouse would have Ohio public school students starting their school year after Labor Day.

According to a Columbus Dispatch report, House Bill 191 would require a school year consist of 1,001 hours for secondary-school students.

The bill would be a shift from current Ohio law which requires that students spend 182 days in school each year.

The Columbus Dispatch report also states that several Ohio lawmakers claim the state’s tourism industry loses millions of dollars each year due to children heading back to school prior to the Labor Day Holiday.
