CANTON – The 2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame game has been canceled.
According to multiple sources, the paint on the field made the conditions poor and the teams were not comfortable with their players playing on it.
The inductees are Youngstown, Ohio native and former San Francisco 49ers owner Edward Debartolo, quarterbacks Brett Favre and Kenny Stabler, wide receiver Marvin Harrison, coach Tony Dungee, offensive tackle Orlando Pace, linebacker Kevin Greene and guard Dick Stanfel.
They were all inducted during Saturday night’s ceremony.
This year’s game was supposed to be the Green Bay Packers against the Indianapolis Colts.
The NFL-NFLPA released the following statement:
Due to safety concerns with the condition of the playing surface in Canton, tonight’s game between the Indianapolis Colts and Green Bay Packers has been cancelled. We are very disappointed for our fans, but player safety is our primary concern, and as a result, we could not play an NFL game on this field tonight.
