CLEVELAND — Refusing to give Republicans the benefit of the doubt, President Barack Obama is working to saddle GOP candidates across the country with the baggage of Donald Trump and his sexually aggressive comments about women.

Obama today rallied for Democrat Hillary Clinton in Cleveland on Friday at Burke Lakefront Airport. Ohio is one of just a handful of toss-up states that could swing to either Clinton or Trump on Election Day.

"He doesn't have the temperament, knowledge or interest in acquiring knowledge or basic honesty a president needs to have, and that was before we heard him talk about women," Obama said of Trump.

Campaigning for Clinton has become Obama's central focus for the month of October. It constitutes his best chance to prevent his accomplishments of the last eight years from being reversed by a Republican successor.

"(Trump) seems to be in the game all the time making excuses for why he might be losing.  So, it's always interesting to me to see people who talk tough, but don't act tough. Because if you're tough, you don't start making excuses. You don't complain about the refs. You just play the game," Obama said.

As polls suggest Trump's chances of winning the White House declining, Democrats have increasingly shifted focus to trying to win as many congressional seats as possible.
