Police: Two arrested for firing at officer

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Two people are arrested after firing shots at a police officer.

According to Springfield Township police, an officer responded to a call about a suspicious person on Krumroy Rd. early Sunday morning.

When the officer arrived, he found two men wearing masks and hoodies. As he tried to approach them,  police say they ran off toward a wooded area while firing at least four bullets at the officer.

The officer was able to reach cover without getting injured.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office and the Akron Police Department helped find the suspects, who were hiding in the area.

Mathew Singleton, 20, and a 17-year-old male juvenile were arrested.

A .22 caliber Ruger handgun was found on one of the suspects.

Officers discovered that the suspects had broken into several cars in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Singleton and the juvenile face charges of felonious assault on a police officer, theft, possession of criminal tools, criminal damaging, and possession of a defaced firearm.
