Editor’s note: Earlier, the police chief told FOX 8 this homicide is the first one since 1979. We have since learned there was one in the city in 2009.

BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) — Police say they found a woman dead in a Broadview Heights home and are calling it a homicide — the first in the city in years.

Jolene A. Decker-Keres, 38, was found dead on Royalwood Road on Monday, according to police.

Officers went to the home for a welfare check after a friend called police saying he hadn’t heard from her in several weeks. Once inside the home, police found her dead in one of the bedrooms.

Investigators are waiting for the results of an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

A neighbor, who wishes not to be identified, said Decker-Keres lived alone and she loved to take care of her cats. She cannot think of anyone who would want to harm her.

“She was very kind. She was a good neighbor… She was fun to talk to,” the neighbor said.
