WARREN, Ohio -- Police released a video showing a former charter school employee assaulting an 11-year-old girl.
The employee can be seen slamming the girl, Sophia Sweet, against the lockers, and then dragging her down the hall. The incident happened inside STEAM Academy in Warren in the fall.
She suffered physical and emotional issues.
The assault took place after the girl put a headband on after she was told to take it off.
Marcus Crum was sentenced to 15 days in a jail alternative program, 80 hours of community service and three years probation.
Crum said after court he feels bad for what took place. He would not talk on camera.
Police and the girl's mother said the school employee is over 6 feet tall and 250 pounds.
"I thought I was going to die," Sophia Sweet told FOX 8.
"I just wish I was there to protect her," said Jill Sweet, the girl's mother. " I am glad it's over."
Sweet said her daughter suffered a head injury, and school officials brought Sophia home and told her what happened. She said her daughter got the headband, which had cat ears on it, for her birthday. Sophia had worn it to school for a week without anyone saying anything.
The family said Sophia no longer attends STEAM Academy.
