OLMSTED FALLS, Ohio– Olmsted Falls officials assured residents the community is safe following a homicide at a condo complex Wednesday night.

Police Chief Odis Rogers estimated it’s the first homicide in the city in more than 30 years.

“This isn’t something that normally occurs in Olmsted Falls. I can understand how some residents of that condo community would feel uneasy,” Rogers said. “This very violent crime that occurred has nothing to do with the community, it has to do with what occurred in that condo between those people.”

Officers were called to a convenience store on Sprague Road and Fernwood Drive at about 7:45 p.m. for a possible assault. There, they learned there may be a deceased victim at a condo on Lake of the Falls Boulevard.

Rogers said the victim, a 26-year-old man whose name has not been released, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. Investigators collected more than 40 pieces of evidence, but would not say if they recovered a gun.

Mayor and safety director James Graven said witnesses provided accurate information about the crime. The suspect, who does not live in Olmsted Falls, fled in a white Nissan.

Graven said they do not believe any other residents are in harm’s way. He called the homicide an isolated incident.

According to Rogers, the victim and suspect knew each other.
