AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – A Summit County man faces numerous charges after police say he kidnapped his mom and led them on a chase early Wednesday morning.
Akron police officers were called to the Courtesy Inn on Market Street around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of an abduction. When they arrived, the victim’s husband said he and his wife were dropping off their son at the motel, when he started acting erratically.

Officers were told the suspect, David Clegg, refused to get out of the car. Clegg then jumped into the driver’s seat of the 2009 Kia Spectra and drove off with his 70-year-old mother in the car.
Around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, officers were searching for the vehicle when they spotted the car in the area of US 224 and Main Street and attempted to do a traffic stop.
Clegg is accused of leading police on a lengthy chase that ended in York Township in Medina County. Multiple agencies assisted with traffic control at intersections and stop sticks were deployed to help bring the pursuit to an end.
David Clegg was taken into custody just before 3 a.m. He now faces numerous charges, including abduction. Clegg was transported to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center for medical evaluation. The victim was found safe inside the vehicle and was unharmed.
