EUCLID, Ohio- Police in Euclid want to make others aware of a burglary that happened in their city on Tuesday.

An elderly woman told them that a man came to her home and said he was from the water department and needed to check her water meter.

The woman said she was not going to let him in her home until he threatened to turn off her water.

She described the man as about 5’4″, between 40-60 years old, wearing a neck tie with an ID hanging from his neck. She said he was carrying a walkie talkie but never used it.

The woman said he spent about 10 minutes in the basement and then she escorted him out of her house.

Later, she told police, she found the contents of her purse spilled out on the dining room table and $1,200 was  missing and some of her checks had been taken.

Police give this reminder: “Let nobody in your home who you do not know or trust. Check for proper Identification. Call police if you’re not sure what to do.”
