EASTLAKE, Ohio — An investigation is underway after a Cleveland man drove himself to a Willoughby hospital, claiming that he had been shot in the parking lot of Wal-Mart in Eastlake.
According to Chief Larry Reik, on Monday evening around 11:00 p.m., Eastlake Police responded to Lake West Hospital after being alerted by the hospital that a 27-year-old Cleveland man claimed he was shot in the parking lot.
Reik says that the man had driven himself to the hospital after the alleged shooting claiming to have been shot while in the passenger seat of his vehicle.
The alleged victim told police that he pulled into a parking spot to go shopping when an unknown man hopped into the passenger side of his vehicle.
The alleged victim told police that the suspect then began demanding that he hand over, “Everything he had”. The alleged victim was then shot in the side of the chest.
According to Reik, the suspect then ran from the scene.
Eastlake Police investigators are reviewing store video in order to gather more information. The victim was later taken by LifeFlight to MetroHealth Medical Center where he is in stable condition.
