LAKEWOOD, Ohio- Police say a car was speeding through Lakewood Monday night before crashing and killing the driver.
John J. Vitanza, 41, of Cleveland, was driving more than 80 mph on Detroit Avenue near Marlowe just before 11 p.m., Lakewood police said. He hit a telephone pole and several parking meters before coming to a rest at Spring Garden Avenue, near the Beck Center for the Arts.
The fire department said Vitanza had to be extricated from the car. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
In December, Vitanza was featured on Fox 8’s Missing Person Project. He was last seen on Nov. 17 in the area of West 98th Street and Lorain Avenue.
