ELYRIA, Ohio -- Elyria police are looking for a group of juveniles or possibly young adults accused of throwing rocks at moving cars.

Officers aren’t sure how many vehicles may have been hit by the rocks, but there are definitely two victims from Sunday night.

The first incident happened at 6:15 p.m.

A man who asked to be identified only as “Mark” said he was driving home from a friend’s house and travelling on Fuller Rd. when he heard extremely loud thumping sounds on the side of his van.

Mark said, “People hiding in the brush in the woods down there bombed my car with some very large stones about size of my fist.”

Mark reported the incident to Elyria police and said the suspects looked like juveniles, but it was difficult to say for certain because they were hidden behind the thick brush.

Mark’s van sustained extensive dents and damage, but he said he feels grateful that he wasn’t hurt and that he was driving alone.

“If I’d had one of my grandkids with me that would’ve been really bad because they’d been riding in the back where the biggest dents are,” said Mark.

Two hours later, at 8:14 p.m., another car driving on Fuller Rd near Fuller St. was also struck by rocks.

The 25-year-old driver told police that he also saw a group of juveniles in the woods.

He said, “The rocks came through the air” and “struck the windshield cracking the glass.”

Both men have insurance. But both men would also like to see the suspects caught before someone gets seriously injured.

“Those were big rocks. If they went through the window it could’ve hit somebody and really hurt them,” said Mark.

The suspects could face a number of charges including criminal damaging and endangering.

Anyone with information about the rock-throwing attacks should call Elyria police at 440-323-3302.
