Deputies investigating officer involved shooting

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Deputies are investigating after an officer involved shooting in Stark County.

According to the Stark County Sheriff, deputies responded to a Ridgehill Ave. home for a domestic disturbance report around 11 p.m. Saturday. Officers from the Alliance Police Department also assisted in the call.

As officers walked up to the house, Douglas Litman, who lives inside the home, pointed a handgun at one of the deputies and attempted to shoot him. The deputy then shot at Litman who ran back inside his house. Moments later, officers heard a single gunshot from inside the house. When they entered the home officers found Litman in the basement suffering from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Litman was transported to Alliance Community Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office and the Stark County Coroner.
