ELYRIA, OH -- Elyria police are looking for a man who is trying to lure young girls into his vehicle.
There were two separate attempted lurings that took place less than an hour of each other, both in broad daylight. Each time, the man asked the girls if they needed a ride.
According to police, the first incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday by the BP station on East Bridge Street. A 12-year-old girl was walking home from school when she was approached and asked if she needed a ride. She refused and ran away.
The second incident happened just 37 minutes later when five young girls were approached by a man as they were walking in the Westway Gardens neighborhood.
A 9-year-old girl spoke to FOX 8 News reporter Maria Scali about what happened.
"Me and my friends were walking and then the guy winked at us and smiled and then he said, 'come here.'"
All five of the girls refused to go near the man.
"I said, 'he looks scary and I think he's going to take us,' so then we ran," the 9-year-old girl added.
All the girls described the man as a white male in his 50s or 60s with short grayish hair. He was driving a white pickup truck.
Officers checked both areas where the attempted lurings took place and did not find the man or the vehicle.
Anyone with information is asked to call Elyria police.
